Rosina Pichardo-Glean

Rosina Pichardo-Glean was born in New York City to immigrant parents of the Dominican Republic. As a child, she spoke Spanish at home and English in school. She attended Mother Cabrini High School where, with her regular curriculum, she also studied Spanish to improve her academic skills in Spanish. Rosina began working with children during her high school years. She worked with 8 and 9 year old children at Saint Matthew’s and Saint Timothy’s Day Camp. In her junior year in high school, as part of her community service, she volunteered at Ascension School. After her volunteer service ended she was hired as the head of their after school program. Upon graduating from high school she enrolled in the Borough of Manhattan Community College, and continued to work in the summer program and the after school ACT program. In addition, Rosina began substitute teaching at the Ascension School. She then accepted a position as an assistant teacher in the Pre-K at Saint Joseph’s School and it was in the Pre-K class that Rosina discovered a love of teaching young children. Rosina has been a teacher at La Escuelita since it began in 2003. Since then, she has completed her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education at City College of New York. She began as an assistant teacher in La Escuelita’s first year, taught as head teacher of the playgroups and summer preschool program, and in August of 2009 she became the Educational Director of La Escuelita.
