Born and raised in Paraguay, Marlene Gableman earned a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at the Catholic University of Asuncion.  She graduated with her Teacher Certification for Paraguay and worked for five years as a Kindergarten and preschool teacher in Asuncion, Paraguay.  During her years as a teacher in Paraguay, Marlene learned from experience about teaching students a second language, having worked with children who spoke Guaraní at home and with children who spoke Spanish but were taught Guaraní in school.  She then moved to the United States where she herself began to learn a new language, English, while working in New Jersey.  In addition to the dual language environment, Marlene was also drawn to La Escuelita for its consideration of the child's larger community, including family and caregivers.  Marlene brings to La Escuelita her enthusiasm for bilingualism and the linguistic, social and cultural benefits it brings to children's lives.
