Lorraine Falchi
Lorraine Theresa Falchi holds a doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University in Curriculum and Teaching with a focus on literacy and emergent bilingualism. She earned her Master of Arts in Developmental Teacher Education from the University of California, Berkeley and majored in World Literature and Cultural Studies for her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has taught extensively and in a variety of teaching contexts from the youngest preschool years to middle school students. Additionally, she has taught at numerous universities in the tri-state area including the City College of New York, Brooklyn College, Montclair State University and Teachers College, Columbia University. Her experiences have enabled her to observe, create positive learning environments, and to collaborate with professionals to best serve students. She has worked with teachers to build meaningful curricular approaches to build on students’ strengths and to address areas of weakness. Lorraine brings a rich range of experience from working with students with special needs and from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. She encourages efforts to actively create collaborative communities of educators, families, and administrators to ultimately encourage best practices for the promotion of young children's development. Lorraine has lived in Italy, studying at the Universitá di Venezia, and she has spent extended periods of time in Mexico and Peru. With her husband who is a native Spanish speaker, Lorraine is raising her own son to be bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate.
