Help make La Escuelita accessible to more families
La Escuelita is deeply committed to Staff Development. Teachers and staff are all members of the National Association of the Education of Young Children and attend the national conference as well as local workshops. Two weeks per year are spent in Staff Development before the start of the school year. Throughout the year, we host visiting professionals as well as visit other high quality preschools. Additionally, each staff member has a stipend to help fund individual development opportunties.
Preschool is special time of discovery. We are always looking to enhance our students' experience in Spanish; be it through our Music Program, Yoga Classes or other visiting artists, high quality classroom materials or field trips.
If your child has attended La Escuelita in the past two years, he or she has already enjoyed a Capoeira class with Coco. This Brazilian art combines dance, music and self- defense. The children focus on the acrobatics and musical elements to help develop spatial awareness and motor-coordination. This is a very active class which can be physically demanding on children as they take turns handling responsibility for the music on the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro and the dancing. Children will not only build their Spanish, but learn the Portuguese terminology of Capoeira.
This is easily one of our most popular La Escuelita classes. Pedro enjoyed it so much last Spring, he has agreed to teach this for both semesters this year. Children learn different types of Latin dances and also exercise with Pedro. This class sold out last Spring.
Didn't enroll your child in a Dual Language program at an elementary school? Or perhaps your child attends one and you feel he or she is not building enough literacy in Spanish? This class is for your child! 4s Teacher Carmen, a former elementary school teacher from Ecuador, will have your child reading and writing. And if your child is an LE alum, those skills are there ready to be expanded upon!
